What advice would you give to community supports based on your lived experiences i.e. Alzheimer Society or other non-for-profit support groups and programs.

In one of our face to face meetings, someone commented that as a newcomer to the Alzheimer Society Support group, still struggling with denial and trying to learn a little bit more about the disease, she felt really overwhelmed with everything the group shared. It scared her off for awhile. Needless to say, she came back and is taking in the info now, but She suggested an introductory group of some type, with more hands on information about the disease and local supports. What was your experience like with support groups? Any suggestions or insights?
