Hi all, I am looking for some stories and observations to pass on the Behavioural Support Services of Providence Care to learn if anyone has had any experiences with their spouse/friend/parent receiving the behavioural support (when struggling with responsive behaviours) through the mobile response teams coming in their long term care home? ..Good experiences or where there was room for improvement?

Mobile Response Teams are staff - PSW's who have special dementia training and understanding in managing responsive behaviours in seniors. Currently, they are called in to support persons living in long term care when the resident's behaviours become difficult for the long term care homes to handle. Instead of sending them off to emerg. these staff come into the home and offer support and supervision. In the best case scenarios, they are able to take the time to get to know the resident and find out what their triggers are, what is behind the responsive behaviours. Of course often these things are delirium and medical in nature, but often they are not and can be dealt with "behaviourally". These teams are slowly being launched into transition situations too - i.e. supporting a person moving from hospital to long term care. I know this description isn't doing it justice - but we'd like to know from a caregivers perspective if they have had any experiences to share with these teams? Hope that helps.

To answer the questions that have been emailed to me: The Mobile Response team is something your long term care facility would request (although I assume you could request it too) if your mom was displaying responsive behaviours and the staff were having trouble managing. This team comes into the home and gives support etc. My guess is your mother just hasn't had the need for this service yet. :) I am just curious how people's experiences have been with these teams.
