Spring and Summer News and Invites

Good Afternoon SE Ontario Lived Experience Advisors,

I hope that you are enjoying the sunny Spring weather we have been having. A warm welcome to any newcomers who have recently become involved in the Lived Experience Network. I want to make you all aware of some of the opportunities that exist to share your stories and ideas for system “change” this Spring.

Please see information and attachments for:

  1. Live Typed Chat – June 5, 2018 7-8:30PM
  2. A Call for Interest for a “Meet Me in the Middle” Luncheon on Friday, June 22 in Kingston
  3. Dates and Locations for Advisory Conversations and Education Dates
  4. Adapted Summer Schedule and Chat/Meeting times

1.Live Typed Chat: Please join us Tuesday, June 5, 2018 on from 7-8:30PM for the lived experience café live typed chat event: Our SE Ontario Lived Experience Network Live Chat Topic for Tuesday, June 5th, 2018, comes from Cathy Sturdy Smith, Manager, Specialized Geriatric Service CMHA, Waterloo Wellington and Pam Hamilton, Clinical Advisor and P.I.E.C.E.S. Curriculum and Education Consultant. (See Chat page for poster).

The current P.I.E.C.E.S. Learning and Development Program for health care professionals is undergoing revisions. In order to ensure the revisions are reflective of the needs and experiences of those with lived experience, the P.I.E.C.E.S Redesign Coordinating Group is seeking feedback and insight from the SE Ontario Lived Experience Network to assist in developing a greater emphasis on the importance of engaging and relationship building with the person, family care partner, all TEAM members.

Question: Reflecting, on your lived experiences, what specific moments, experienced along your journey, would you want included in the P.I.E.C.E.S. classroom learning discussions? Can you suggest reflective questions to ask learners for small group discussions? If you are not comfortable with the “chat technology”, I am happy to walk through it with you ahead of time or you can send me your answers by email and I will add them to the summary.

2.Meet Me In the Middle: From time to time SE Ontario Lived Experience Network participants like to get together in person for a luncheon we call “Meet Me in the Middle” at Mino’s Restaurant in Kingston. We are proposing to meet on June 22nd at 12:30pm. Please let me know if you are interested in attending!

3.Dates and Locations for Advisory Meetings and Education: Please see the calendar for dates and locations when I will be in your area hosting face to face advisory meetings or education events. In June, I will be in Brockville, Perth, Smiths Falls and Brighton.

4.Summer Schedule and Chat/Meeting Times: Please note, due to people’s summer holidays and schedules, we will not be holding any live chats for SE Ontario Lived Experience Network or the BSO Provincial Lived Experience Advisory. I will also be working an altered schedule: In July: working July 16-27 and in August:  working August 13-31 only. We will continue to be hold our BSO Provincial Lived Experience video/teleconference meeting in July if you wish to take part.

I hope you will consider taking part in June’s chat or to email me your thoughts and feedback. I look forward to hearing your collective wisdom!

With thanks,
