The Lived Experience Network & The Lived Experience Online Café

You have a story based on your lived experience dealing with dementia that can help others and give advice to people creating and providing services to seniors.  Thank you to everyone who has shared heart felt stories, observations and suggestions for change and for your interest in the Lived Experience Network, a collection of people affected by dementia or similar diagnoses in South Eastern Ontario.

Here are some things that are coming up this Fall:

  •  NEXT LIVE CHAT EVENTS: Wednesday, September 3rd from 6:30-8PM and Thursday, September 11th from noon to 1pm for a live (typed) online chat. Our topic this month is "Going to the Doctor’s”.  Next month I have been invited to share the perspective of the lived experience network to a group of family health team partners. Come prepared to share what you think would be helpful for doctors and their staff to know about people with dementia and their partners in care.  These chats welcome professional partners in care as well as family and friends.
  •  Please share your thoughts on our discussion boards at . Also, be sure to see our online Calendar of Events . If you know of an event for seniors and older adults in South Eastern Ontario that you’d like me to share, please let me know. Please tell everyone: your clients, friends, patients, colleagues and relatives about the Lived Experience Network.  I welcome their emails and phone calls.
  • ·CAFÉ SCIENTIFIQUE: The Alzheimer Society of KFL&A and Providence Care invite you to come and enjoy an information evening on the risks and benefits of medication for older adults living with dementia at the Medications & Memory: Friend or Foe? Café Scientifique, September 24, 2014 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Mino’s Village Restaurant, 2762 Princess St. Kingston, Ontario. Snacks and Refreshments will be provided. Presenters include: Dr. Melissa Andrew, Dr. Chris Frank, Dr. Sudeep Gill and Dr. Dallas Seitz. This is an informal format where you will enjoy learning conversation on this topic with a team of local experts. To reserve your attendance please contact Carol Mitchell at 613-548-5567 Ext. 5706
  • ·MEET YOU IN THE MIDDLE: In our last live chat event, some members of the network requested a "face to face” meeting. Since our members live all over the S.E. region, we decided the best place to meet was in the middle – Kingston. This October, I will be organizing an opportunity for us all to meet at a restaurant, talk face to face and get to know each other. Please come to the next live chat with your dates in mind.

I hope to see you in person or online very soon. Please note, if you do not wish to be part of this e-newsletter, please email me at and I will remove you from the list.

Warm Regards,

Sharon Osvald
