January and New Beginnings

 

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s. I know this can be a difficult time for families living with dementia. I trust you were able to find some moments of support and connection with family and friends throughout the holidays.

 I would like to invite you to participate in our two live (typed) chat events that will be taking place in January. We just completed our first January live chat event on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 6:30-8PM. As always there were great insights and observations for change shared. Please join us for the daytime chat  on Monday, January 26, 2015 from 12 noon to 1pm.

 Our Topic is an interesting one: Our question comes from professionals from the Quality, Patient Safety and Interprofessional Practice at Quinte Health Care: " When it comes to language, are there terms, phrases or language that you find insensitive or frustrating to you as persons and families living with dementia and similar diagnoses. What are some positive examples or alternatives that you would prefer?"

 Don’t be concerned if you are not very technological. We have kept this chat module as easy as possible any many of our participants have never done this before. Simply join our website www.dementiacrossroads.ca and before the chat time and date click on the Chat Page and follow the links.  Finally, in December I was able to share the findings of 200+ conversations with members of this Lived Experience Network in a webinar, highlighting the six main priorities people and families in our South Eastern Ontario region stated were essential for quality health care.
