June 2015

June 2015

Hello Lived Experience Network Members,

For some of you this the first time you are learning about me, others have been involved with the Lived Experience Network since we started in May of 2013. Thank you for your willingness to participate in sharing your lived experiences, input and suggestions for change in order to help in the delivery, planning and evaluation of health care services for older adults living with dementia and similar diagnoses in the south east region.

Firstly, I’d like to invite you to participate in this month’s live (typed) online chats on .  June's dates are: Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from 6:30-8PM and Monday, June 15, 2015 from noon to 1 pm. Our topic comes from Dr. Ken LeClair, Providence Care Behavioural Support Services:

When you consider your experiences with different medical doctors providing care (family physicians, medical doctors in hospital, long term care or geriatric psychiatry) - what approaches did they use that enabled you to be an active participant and in the health care of your dependent? What strategies did they take to give you meaningful support that allowed you to be involved in decision making and care? Come prepare to share what worked – and what did not?

To join in the conversation, just before the chat time, sign on to , click on the chat page and follow the links. I have made every effort to keep this as simple and user friendly as possible. Please note to take part in the Discussion Boards or Live Chat events you will need to become a member of our community. If you have any problems logging on or posting a message, please email I hope you’ll join us!

Finally, I also wanted to invite you to a free educational evening in Trenton, Ontario on Thursday, June 18, 2015 called: Café Scientifique – Medications and Memory, Friend or Foe? for an chance to learn more about medications and dementia. (see details on our Calendar Page).

Hope to speak with you soon,

Sharon Osvald, Lived Experience Network Coordinator
